"Be Patient", I Said

The doctors said to, “come on out”, but I was so afraid,
“Be patient I said”.
My mother said, “walk, child, walk”, but I would always fall.
“Be patient I said”.
My teacher said to “study hard”, but I would just sleep in class.
“Be patient”, I said.
My preacher said,” Stay on the right track”, but I never went to church.
“Be patient”, I said.
My boyfriend said, “Show me love”, but I never even said the words.
“Be patient “, I said.

But now since I’ve come out,
I can walk both in and out.
Study hard and make good grades.
In church is where I always stay.
And even though he’s not with me now,
He knows I love him, ask me how?!

“Be patient”, I said.
